Liposome Increases The Absorption Of Medications And Nutrients

By Wanda Vaughn

Since the 1970s, liposomes have been used by medical professionals to deliver medication directly to the area or organ where it is needed. It was also discovered that liposomes provided a slow release effect, which lowered the adverse affects of some medications, especially cancer treatments. More recently, liposomes have been utilized in the cosmetic and nutrient supplement industries, since it was discovered that liposome technology greatly increases the absorption of nutrients.

A liposome looks like a microscopic pouch that is filled with fluids; the walls are comprised of phospholipids. These phospholipids are the same as those that occur naturally in the natural cell membranes. Liposomes take the substances they carry directly to the cells and the blood stream, far more efficiently than the body itself can do.

The type of lipids that are needed for cell regeneration and repair in the body are also part of a liposome. As the modern lifestyle and diet have greatly impacted the health of cell walls, this aspect of the make-up of liposomes enhances the ability of the cells to take up nutrients and oxygen. The health of cells in the body is therefore improved as a result of liposomal delivery.

Liposomes are now used in the treatment of several life-threatening health problems, with good effect. Included in this list are autism, congestive heart disease, multiple sclerosis, Alzheimers, Parkinsons and other age-related diseases.

Many nutrients and drugs are not absorbed very efficiently by the body and a liposome delivery system greatly enhances this absorption. For example, Co enzyme Q10 has an average absorption rate of three to five percent but when combined with a liposome, this increases to an incredible 90 percent or more.

Liposomal Encapsulation Technology is the name given to the technique of using these liposomes to get the required nutrient or medication to the targeted area in the body. Oral supplements and medicines might be broken down as they pass through the digestive tract, meaning that the full strength does not each the blood stream to be carried to where it is needed. This also means that the strength of the dose can be reduced with no loss of efficacy, also saving money and medical resources.

Supplementing with vitamin C is a good example of how well LET works. This vitamin is acknowledged as a powerful anti-oxidant and has been shown to be an effective treatment in a range of health issues. Vitamin C cannot be made in the human body so it must be taken in with food or supplements. Unfortunately, oral supplements of vitamin C have a very low rate of absorption and assimilation. Prior to LET, intravenous injection was the only way to get the high dosage and better absorption of vitamin C that was required. LET delivers the vitamin straight to the cells where it is needed and there are no adverse side-effects.

Nutritional companies have now taken up the LET challenge and some have included the system in their supplement ranges. While not yet widely available, many supplements are made with LET that help to increase the absorption of the nutrients. Do some research to discover how to make liposome formulations at home.
