Why the Sports World Is Embracing Kettlebell Exercises

By Rob Sutter

Kettlebell training has come a long way since the Russian army under the Czar desired to find a way to keep in shape during down periods between battles and wars. Make no mistake, however: this training program is tough, and the normal individual will try it and be unsuccessful at first. The workouts have also made a tremendous splash in the sports world, with professional athletes embracing the exotic workout program.

It seems like athletes of all sorts have started to take to kettlebell exercises since they offer a variety of ways to work out, which is something normal weights can't. Lorna, one of the authorities in terms of fitness, claims that these weights bear a greater sense of motion in comparison to typical dumbbells and this is mostly due to how they are designed. The weights appear to be that of handles but a cannonball is placed on the side. This allows them to be maneuvered seamlessly and each muscle has to be used in order to get the most out of them.

Kettlebells also give something that dumbbells will not, and even something that whole gym sets will not offer. The weights provide not just strength training, but cardio workouts as well. The weights entail such a tough workout program for the body that it requires not just physical muscles to work on strength, but heart muscles to work on cardio as well. That is what gives it an edge over alternative workout programs; it requires the complete body to work as one unit.

This is only one out of a series of reasons for the popularity found by the workout program. What many people may not realize is the history being these particular weights. They started out in Russia and with that came a stigma. This was due to the fact that during the Cold War, supposedly when the kettlebells came to fruition, and the United States was not on good terms with the Soviet Union. If only people would have known how great an impact the weights would have today, I wonder how differently people would have behaved back then.

Things have begun to adapt however, and now the kettlebell is getting more and more celebrity in America as a legitimate system to use. Since the collapse of the Soviet Union, the citizens in the United States that did not grow up in the era of the cold war are now becoming adults themselves, and are starting to understand things. One such thing is the weight workout that has come out of our former enemy's country. This is why this particular weight is gaining some serious ground in the sports world as a valid workout program.
